About Us


Pacific Reach Paddling Club is based in Vancouver, BC, Canada

Our training grounds are at the scenic waters of False Creek Granville Island, Kitsilano Beach, English Bay.

Our Outrigger Club is located at Kitsilano Yacht Club.

Carmen and Rob Varnel founded Pacific Reach in 2001 with the vision to establish a Competitive crew and Social Club.

Rob, with an extensive background in marathon canoe, outrigger and dragon boat has been racing since the age of 19. He continues to compete in National and International events since being part of the inaugural debut of dragon boats in Expo 86'.  To date Rob continues to actively support the Paddling Community on the Board of Dragon Boat Canada, Canadian Outrigger Racing Association and Kitsilano Yacht Club.

Carmen, an Instructor in the Fitness Industry started  paddling marathon canoe and dragon boat in 1990 before merging into outrigger.  She continues to support the paddling Community on CORA and manages Pacific Reach Paddling Club.

Over the years, our Sprint races and Iron distance races have brought our travels to: 

Victoria, Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon, Whistler, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Bellingham, Seattle, Sacramento, Newport, Portland, Catalina, New York,  Maui, Oahu, Molokai, Brazil.
